We are very excited that the time has come to announce the winners of our Scholars Making Music Competition...
First of all we want to say a massive thank you to everyone who sent in a video. We really enjoyed watching your performances and have had lots of lovely feedback from the Charity's supporters and friends who have loved seeing you play your instruments. As well as being a great way of sharing music we feel that your videos have raised everyone's spirits at this difficult time. They have also inspired us, the LMF team, to work even harder to enable more young Londoners to benefit from our programmes.
Just a reminder that the following things were considered when making our decision:
We also have a special prize for one of our Scholars, as you'll see further down this page, and our Founder Trustee, Veronica Wadley CBE, was so impressed with the whole shortlist she has very generously offered to give £20 Music Room vouchers to three runners up who we will list below. We want to say a huge thank you to Veronica for providing the prizes for this competition.
If you have enjoyed watching our Scholars Making Music videos we would be hugely grateful for your support of our work. The London Music Fund is taking part in The Big Give & Childhood Trust’s ‘Champions for Children’ campaign from midday on Tuesday 23 - midday on 30 June 2020. Thanks to generous support from The Childhood Trust all donations will be matched so this is a fantastic opportunity to have twice the impact.
Without further ado here are our winners...
Parastesh - Age 11 - Violin - Barnet - 2019-23
Parastesh has already excelled in her learning despite being a new Scholar. She is currently playing at Grade 4 level and shows incredibly enthusiasm for her music (as I'm sure you can tell from her introduction). Parastesh is playing 'Shallow' from the film 'A Star is Born'.
Adar - Age 12 - Flute - Enfield - 2018-22
As you can hear from this video Adar has made outstanding progress since starting his Scholarship. He is currently playing at Grade 5 level and in this video he is performing the 2nd movement from a flute concerto entitled 'Cantilena' by Poulenc.
Danielle - Age 11 - Clarinet - Lambeth - 2018-22
Since starting her Scholarship Danielle has been working very hard on her musical skills. Her teacher told us that she practises regularly and that her sight-reading is constantly improving. In this video Danielle is playing 'Eye of the Tiger'.
Amelia - Age 10 - Bassoon - Haringey - 2019-23
Amelia has shown fantastic commitment to learning her bassoon. She achieved a Distinction in her Grade 2 exam and is now working hard towards her Grade 3 exam. In this video Amelia is playing an extract from Pavane by Gabriel Faure.
Matthew - Age 13 - Violin - Bromley - 2015-19
We were so impressed by Matthew's beautiful and confident performance to his neighbours right at the beginning of lockdown. We are therefore pleased to be awarding him a special prize.
Matthew wanted us to share this message alongside his video: "Here is my version of ‘Someone you Loved’ by Lewis Capaldi which I played during lockdown from my balcony just before the clapping for NHS and carers. I love playing this tune and the emotion behind it - as a young carer for my Granny I know how important it is to look after those we love. I'm so pleased l have my music and violin to play while we are in lockdown and love playing live to neighbours to cheer everyone up during these difficult times"
Bishop - Drums - Ealing - 2019-23
Ellie - Electric Guitar - Wandsworth - 2018-22
Francesca - Oboe - Bromley -2019-23
