January Scholar of the Month - Éirinn
Éirinn
Éirinn, aged 12, is a dedicated and enthusiastic young violinist who has been a London Music Fund Scholar since 2024. A committed member of the Enfield intermediate string ensemble, she has shown impressive progress since the start of her scholarship, moving confidently from Grade 2 to a strong Grade 3 standard and is preparing for her next exam.
Her teachers describe her as polite, kind, and always well prepared, with a genuine joy for making music both individually and as part of a group. At the Enfield Music Service end‑of‑term concert, Éirinn played on the front desk of the first violins, a clear sign of her growing ability. Éirinn’s positive attitude and curiosity have helped her flourish both in lessons and in group settings, where she contributes with confidence and joy.
We asked Éirinn how she has been finding her Scholarship:
What do you enjoy most about playing the violin right now, and why?
“I really enjoy playing with other people because when everyone plays different parts of a song, it all comes together and sounds amazing. It feels like you’re building something bigger than yourself, and I love hearing how the music changes when all the parts fit together.”
Can you share a musical moment from this year that made you feel especially proud or inspired?
“This year I was really inspired when I went to concerts and heard how other people play with all different types of instruments. It made me proud of what I’m learning, and it showed me how magical music can sound when everyone plays together. It made me want to keep practising so I can play like that one day.”
What’s your favourite piece of music to play, and how does it make you feel when you perform it?
“One of my favourite pieces I played this year was Skyfall by Adele. It’s dramatic and exciting, and it’s fun to see how different parts of the song add to the feeling of ‘Skyfall’.”
Looking ahead, what new musical experiences or opportunities are you most excited to try?
“I would love to go to a concert! I want to listen carefully to how they perform and see how magical it sounds live. I think it would inspire me even more and give me ideas for how I can make my own playing better.”
Éirinn has already achieved so much in her Scholarship journey, and her passion for music shines through in everything she does. We look forward to watching her flourish as a violinist and embrace all of the opportunities her scholarship provides.
