Sponsor a Scholar

Our unique Scholarship programme supports children from low-income families with a four-year award, affording them a significant investment in their musical journey, at a time when they most need it.

Children who show potential and commitment in music are nominated through their primary school. Once on the programme, they receive a dedicated weekly programme of learning of a minimum of 2 hours per week, including orchestras, choirs, bands, instrumental tuition, and access to performances and projects with professional musicians. The Scholarship lasts for four years,a and covers the often-difficult transition to secondary school. Importantly, each child is given a named mentor, to liaise with the school, family, teacher and Music Hub, to ensure the full programme is being accessed, and address any issues that may arise.

“Sponsoring a London Music Fund Scholar is such a rewarding experience – it is amazing to follow the journey of these children, from beginners to fully-fledged young musicians. It is wonderful to see the impact this programme has on their personal – as well as musical – development over the four years.” Estelle Price, Scholarship Sponsor

We aim to award a minimum of 50 4-year Scholarships to children from low-income backgrounds every year. The full cost of supporting a musical child with a full four-year Scholarship is £4000 (£1000 per year / £85 per month). Scholarship Sponsors receive:

  • Your Scholars’ name, age, borough and instrument;

  • Twice-yearly progress updates, to let you know how your Scholar is getting on with their learning;

  • Invitations to attend our annual Awards Celebration, Graduation Ceremony, and other events and performances where appropriate;

  • Regular updates including our e-newsletter, a copy of our bi-annual Scholarship Sponsors’ Magazine, Tempo!, acknowledgement on our website and in our Impact Report.

“Dear Daniel, I wanted to write to say congratulations on your amazing end of year report – your teacher seems very impressed! I’m so pleased you are enjoying your drumming and really hope that I can hear you play soon. Good luck with your performance at the Royal Albert Hall. I'm so happy I'm sponsoring you and keep up the great playing. ”
