October Junior Scholar of the Month - Wano

Wano with his trumpet

Wano is one of our new 2026–30 Junior Scholars and a trumpet player with Music Education Islington. He has a real enthusiasm for music and enjoys learning, practising and discovering new things about his instrument.

Wano particularly enjoys playing alongside other young musicians and getting involved in different ensembles. He has also enjoyed exploring improvisation, where he can experiment with his own ideas and be creative with the trumpet.

With his curiosity, enthusiasm and love of playing, Wano is looking forward to making the most of the opportunities that come with being a London Music Fund Scholar and continuing to develop as a young musician.

We asked Wano what he is most excited about as he begins his journey as a Junior Scholar:

What does becoming a Junior Scholar mean to you, and what are you most excited about as you begin your journey with LMF?

"Becoming a Junior Scholar makes me very excited because I love music and I am happy to have this opportunity. I am excited to learn more, improve my trumpet playing and go to the music school. It is amazing to be part of this programme and I am looking forward to seeing what I can do.”

What do you enjoy most about playing the trumpet right now, and why?

“What I enjoy most about playing the trumpet is that I feel I am very good at it and it makes me happy. I enjoy practising and learning new things on my trumpet. When I play, I feel excited and proud, and I want to keep getting better.”

Do you have a favourite musician, if so, who?

"My favourite musician is John Wallace. I really like listening to him play the trumpet and I enjoy his music."

What is your favourite piece of music to play, and how does it make you feel when you perform it?

“My favourite piece of music to play is ‘Joy to the World’. I really enjoy playing it because it is an exciting piece of music. When I perform it, it makes me feel proud, and I enjoy sharing my playing with others.”

As Wano begins his Junior Scholarship journey, we are excited to see how his enthusiasm, curiosity and commitment continue to develop. His love of music and dedication to improving his trumpet playing will provide a wonderful foundation for the opportunities ahead, and we look forward to seeing him grow in confidence and ability as a young musician.

We are so pleased to welcome Wano as a Junior Scholar. Go, Wano!
