April Scholar of the Month

Ava is a valued member of her musical community in Bromley and is progressing well within her trumpet studies. Undeterred by challenges, Ava always listens carefully and responds well to feedback, which has meant that she is making great progress towards her grade 5 exam. She is an excellent role model and is able to connect with musicians of all ages, and has worked her way up to be lead trumpet of her current ensemble at Bromley Youth Music Trust. At our most recent Playing Day at Conway Hall, Ava introduced her group’s piece during the concert, and we were impressed by her contributions and attitude throughout the day.

We asked Ava how she was finding her Scholarship so far:

How did you find the most recent Playing Day at Conway Hall?

The most recent Playing Day at Conway Hall was an amazing experience. I loved being able to help compose and conduct. Having the opportunity to work with such outstanding musicians was wonderful and has inspired me to continue working hard on my musical journey.

What has been your favourite moment of your Scholarship so far?

The London Music Fund has provided so many amazing experiences for me. Thanks to the LMF I have been able to join my music school ensembles. I am now the lead trumpet in Sparkes Band and had the responsibility of playing the solos in our recent concerts. My favourite solo was in ‘Hug Pine’, composed by Dudu Pakwana and arranged by Ian Lawrence our conductor. I had to stand for my solo and really loved this experience. I believe it built my confidence to then enable me to do the same at Conway Hall.

What are you looking forward to most this year?

This year I am looking forward to moving up to Hess Band at BYMT and completing grade five in the next month or so. I also hope to sit Grade 5 Music Theory this year.

What are your musical goals for the future?

My musical goals for the future are to complete grade eight and reach the top band and orchestra at my music school. I also hope to be selected to play the trumpet in a musical theatre production at the music school.
