About the London Music Fund

Established in 2011, the London Music Fund is an independent charity (no. 1141216) with the Mayor of London as Patron. Winner of ‘Outstanding Musical Initiative’ at the 2021 Music & Drama Education Awards, the London Music Fund’s mission is to transform under-served communities by enabling children to access high-quality music education. Our vision is that every child who demonstrates significant musical ability, enthusiasm and commitment to learning an instrument is given the opportunity to develop their potential.

We are pleased to work in partnership with London’s 30 Music Education Hubs, and with other education and music providers across the capital. Our reach is extensive, and we are able to significantly enhance musical opportunities and experiences for thousands of children and young people.

Since 2011:

  • We have invested more than £4.2 million to music education in the capital.

  • We have awarded 832 four-year Scholarships across all 32 London boroughs, 65% of which have been given to children from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds.

  • We have funded almost 80 inspirational projects with professional arts organisations, ensembles and venues.

  • Our work has directly involved more than 12,000 young musicians, and almost 50,000 others have benefitted by attending concerts, workshops and taster sessions.

“Learning a musical instrument has wide reaching benefits: it improves concentration, academic attainment, contributes to higher self-esteem and, most importatly, raises children’s expectations of what they can achieve in all areas of their lives. I am delighted to be the Patron of the London Music Fund.”

Celebrating success

“This was the best thing that ever happened to Ruth. It helped her to grow, both in her music and herself. She has become so much more mature and confident because of all her music. She is less shy and much more able to work in a group and talk to different people. She has met lots of people and played a lot. Thank you.”
