PLAYING DAYS

What

A Playing Day is an opportunity to for our Scholars to gather and get creative.

Throughout the day, our Scholars work alongside inspiring workshop leaders and Senior Scholars to write their own composition or learn new music, which they then perform to their families and friends at the end of the day.

Where

Over the years, we have hosted our playing days in highly respected venues such as Conway Hall, Smith Square Hall, and City of London School. Our partnerships with these spaces inspire our Scholars both architecturally and sonically.

At our last Playing Day, our Scholars composed a special 15th anniversary commission at Conway Hall.

Why

Playing days are essential for building community, confidence, and connection. Through writing and playing together, we hope to encourage our young musicians to take a step further into their playing, develop new skills, and be inspired by the fantastic musicians around them.

Playing Days also offer Senior Scholars the opportunity to act as musical mentors, providing inspiring and relatable role models for Scholars at the beginning of their journeys.

The Future

Looking ahead, we are excited to build on the success of our Playing Days by making them even more accessible, flexible, and inclusive for young people and their families.

We plan to expand events across a wider range of London locations, and introduce new opportunities that will be co-designed with the young people themselves. This will include instrument-specific masterclasses, sessions with former Scholars, and workshops in conducting.
