LMF Scholars perform at Downing Street!

We are delighted to announce that two of London Music Fund’s Scholars had the incredible opportunity of performing at Downing Street last week, as part of a special event highlighting the Royal College of Music’s partnerships and advocacy for music education.
Jedidiah, 12, from Royal Greenwich Music Hub, is an exceptionally gifted young saxophonist, and his tutor tells us he has made a very bright start at the RCM Junior Department. As well as achieving a Grade 5 with high marks, he is able to improvise with a lot of confidence, harmonic and technical fluency, with an instinctive feel for music. We are also told Jedidiah is enjoying the newer areas of music theory and big band sight-reading that the Junior Department is offering.
Lucas, 18, is a talented young trumpet player who joined the Royal College of Music’s Junior Department through Nucleo, an inspirational music programme in North Kensington. As well as a terrific cellist, Lucas is principal trumpet of the London Schools' Symphony Orchestra and of the RCMJD Symphony Orchestra, and continues to act as a role model and mentor for younger students at Nucleo. Earlier this year Lucas had the opportunity to perform alongside rapper Bashy at the MOBO Awards - an annual British music award show that celebrates achievements in "music of black origin".
As members of the Royal College of Music’s Junior Department, both Jedidiah and Lucas are able to take part in chamber music, high quality 1-1 tutoring, develop their musicianship and have access to orchestral and choral training on Saturdays at the college. The evening at Downing Street, which was attended by LMF’s Chief Executive Chrissy Kinsella, featured performances from musicians at different stages of their musical journey, from the Junior department to the Senior College.
