Scholars Seasonal Songs - Competition Winners Announced!

Following the success of our spring 2020 #ScholarsMakingMusic competition we decided to run a festive version to spread some cheer after this difficult year. Current Scholars and recent Graduates were invited to send in a video of them performing something festive – anything from a Christmas carol or a winter song, to a song from a Christmas film, or any piece that makes them feel cosy, warm or festive at this time of year. We received so many wonderful videos which we have thoroughly enjoyed watching (and sometimes singing along too!) and are now excited to be announcing the winners.

We want to say a huge thank you to our Founder Trustee, Richard Morris, who has very kindly donated the prizes for our winners.

If the Scholars' performances have lifted your spirits, we would be so grateful if would you consider supporting our work in this year's Big Give Christmas Challenge.

Like all small charities, 2020 has been a tough year for us in terms of fundraising. We have had to cancel all of our events, including our major fundraiser with the Mayor of London which usually raises c.£100,000. Thanks to our generous supporters, we raised almost £40,000 during the 'Champions for Children' summer giving campaign which has helped us ensure that we can continue with our Scholarship programme in the near future. However, 2021 will be a very challenging year for us, and in order to keep working to support children across London we need your help. We are therefore very excited to be taking part in the this year's Big Give Christmas Challenge.

This campaign has always been a fantastic way for us to raise funds but this year we need your support more than ever. The campaign goes live at 12 noon on Tuesday 1st December, and we would be so grateful if you could make a donation then. Thank you in advance for helping us change young lives through music.

CLICK HERE donate to us via the Big Give between 12pm on 1st December 2020 to 12pm on 8th December 2020 your donation will be DOUBLED.

Without further ado here are our winners...

1st Place - Winner of £100 voucher for musical items

Bishop - Age 11 - Drums - Ealing- 2019-23

Despite only being one year into his Scholarship Bishop has already achieved a great deal. He started playing at Grade 1 level and is already working on Grade 6 pieces. Bishop fully engages in music and demonstrates a genuine love for it. He has excellent rhythmic knowledge and is especially confident when improvising and playing in front of others. We think this video of him playing Mariah Carey's 'All I Want for Christmas is You' shows how passionate he is about music and we hope you love it as much as we do!

2nd Place - Winner of £60 voucher for musical items

Dean - Age 12 - Guitar - Hounslow - 2018-22

Dean is a brilliant young guitarist and has done extremely well this year. Ealier this year he was working towards Grade 4 but could not take the exam because of the lockdown. He then moved on to Grade 5 and has been thriving ever since. Dean's teacher told us that he has responded brilliantly to the challenge of 2020 and made great progress in his learning. We hope you enjoy his beautiful performance of 'Country Etude' by Tatiana Stachak.

3rd Place - Winner of £40 voucher for musical items

Joy - Age 13 - Flute - Bromley - 2018-22

Over the past few months Joy has been expanding her repertoire by learning many Grade 6 pieces. She had been working hard towards her Grade 5 theory exam this year but it was unfortunately cancelled in the summer term. Before the pandemic Joy continued to play in every ensemble she could and performed in numerous concerts as a member of the orchestra and as a soloist. We hope you enjoy this jolly performance of 'Dance of the Snowmen' from 'The Snowman' film.
