One of London’s leading choirs is coming to Southwark Cathedral in London to perform JS Bach’s magnificent “St Matthew Passion” on Saturday 30th March at 5.30pm. This concert will be in partnership with the London Music Fund with the aim to raise some vital funds for our programmes and increase our profile in the capital.

The Chorus has performed this work every Easter for many years and is particularly excited to be returning to it again this year. It is of course the story of Christ’s Passion as told by St Matthew, and Bach tells the epic tale through the narrative from the Evangelist (sung by Rupert Charlesworth) interspersed with choruses and chorales from the choir and arias from the soloists.

The Chorus will be led by its Musical Director, Ronald Corp, and accompanied by the New London Orchestra and a children’s ripieno choir from the Centre of Young Musicians.  There is a rich line-up of soloists including James Newby who sings the part of Christ.

Young musicians benefitting from the London Music Fund Scholarship programme will be attending this concert with their friends and families thanks to the generosity of The London Chorus. This is a marvellous opportunity to listen to this most beautiful work performed by some of London’s top musicians and we are very grateful to The London Chorus for this fantastic offer.
